2020 Ford Explorer Model Review - Dalton, GA

The Ford Explorer came on the scene in 1991 and completely redefined what the family vehicle looked like. Rugged, tough, and made for every member of the family to enjoy, the Explorer has gotten better every year, and 2020 is no exception. The 2020 Explorer does keep some of its traditional features, but let’s dive into some of the new and high-tech features that make the 2020 model really stand out in its class.

Exterior and Engine

Like the Escape, Ford redefined the 2020 Explorer with an entire new engine lineup. There are four powertrain engine options including: the 2.3L EcoBoost engine (base and XLT model), the 3L V6 EcoBoost engine (platinum model), a 3L high-output EcoBoost engine, and a 3.3L V6 Hybrid engine. All four are equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

One of the biggest changes this year is the shift from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive. Not only does this change where the engine is placed under the hood, but it extends the wheelbase by about six inches, ultimately creating more stability and more interior room in this renovated SUV.

A challenge for all SUV creators is combining the torque and tow capacity of a truck with the conveniences of the family minivan. The 2020 Explorer doesn’t disappoint, towing up to 5,600 lbs. and harboring an intelligent 4WD Terrain Management System.

Interior Space and Tech Features

The interior of the Ford Explorer stands out because of its well-thought-out family features like the second-row captain’s chairs with easy-access car seat anchors and juice box holders. Ford even created a console that is designed to be stepped on in between the captain’s chairs that is built into the floor for even easier access to the third row.

The captain’s chair set up not only allows second-row passengers much needed legroom, but it also makes loading car seats and kids a breeze. Third-row passengers have two simple and easy exit points with push-button second row seat folding and a pull loop at the bottom of the second row.

Nothing makes putting groceries and cargo in the trunk better than the simple touch of a button. The 2020 Ford Explorer has convenient buttons in the automatic lift-gate trunk that automatically lower the third row for up to 87.8 cubic feet of extended cargo room. The rotary shifter, panoramic moonroof, available 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and 12.3-inch digital cluster panel really make the Explorer a joy to make any kind of trip in.

Safety Features

The Ford Explorer takes safety features to a new level with some fresh tech to change your driving game. It offers adaptive LED lighting that adjusts as you drive, even redirecting light around bends in the road so you can better see what’s ahead. We mean it when we say your daily commute is going to change for the better with the 2020 Explorer. With safety and convenience features like blind spot monitoring, a lane-keeping system, automatic emergency braking, rear view camera, adaptive cruise control, steering assist, and even hill descent control, you’ll feel comfortable and safe wherever you go.
